“Kuliah Tamu” Communication Science Study Program: Generation Z’s Interest in Politics in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections

The Communication Science Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences held a Guest Lecture with the theme “Generation Z’s Interest in Politics in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections”. The speakers in this activity were Mrs. Ulya Fitri, M.Sc. and Mr. Mahmuda, M.Sos., from Mahmud Yunus State Islamic University Batusangkar. The event was held at the Bung Hatta Hall, Postgraduate Building, 2nd Floor, Campus A, Jakarta State University. Also attending this guest lecture were lecturers from the Communication Science Study Program and students of the Communication Science Study Program, batches of 2023 and 2024.

The event was opened by the MC, followed by a speech by the Coordinator of the Communication Science Study Program, Dr. Dini Safitri, M.Si. In her speech, Ms. Dini gave direction to students who are Generation Z to play an active role in the regional elections. “Communication students must be smart voters in the 2024 regional elections. Moreover, in several regions such as DKJ, there is a lot of political noise on social media accompanying the DKJ gubernatorial election,” said Dini.

The next event was the introduction of guest lecturers, namely Mr. Mahmuda, M.Sos., by Mr. Dr. M. Fikri Akbar, S.l.Kom, M.Si, M.M. as the moderator. In his presentation, Mr. Mahmuda Yunus, M.Sos., said that Generation Z is a generation that cannot be separated from smartphones. Mrs. Ulya Fitri, M.Si., also gave a short statement. In this statement, it was said that students must think positively about prospective leaders. This is because the seeds of prospective leaders must be among the students who come. Therefore, as the successors of Indonesian politics, students are expected not to have an apathetic attitude and fear of the world of politics. This activity was closed with the presentation of plaques to the speakers.
