The 2022 batch of S-1 Communication Science students Universitas Negeri Jakarta held a guest lecture for the International Communication course, lectured by Dr. Wiratri Anindhita, M.Sc., CPR. The guest lecture took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in the Ruang Serba Guna of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta.
The guest lecture featured Muhammad Hanafi, a reporter and YouTube Lead for DW Indonesia. During the session, Hanafi shared his experiences working in journalism, both in national and international media.
DW Indonesia is part of Deutsche Welle (DW), a German-based international media that provides global news and information. The topics covered by DW Indonesia include freedom and human rights, democracy and good governance, free trade and social justice, technology and innovation, health education, nutrition, and environmental protection, as well as German and European culture.
During the guest lecture, the 2022 batch of S-1 Communication Science students gained insight into the differences between working as a reporter for national media and international media. National media reporters are familiar with sudden reporting schedules. In contrast, international media, particularly DW Indonesia, have well-structured scheduling for each content and report, prioritize work-life balance, and maintain high writing standards, such as requiring articles to be at least 800 words in length.
Regarding this guest lecture, the Coordinator of the S-1 Communication Science UNJ, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR, stated, “To become an international journalist, there are many other skills required besides journalistic writing ability. Hopefully, this guest lecture can broaden the horizons of students, especially those who wish to delve deeper into the world of journalism.”
