S-1 Communication Science UNJ Hosts National Media Practitioner as Guest Lecturer

Jakarta, September 17, 2025 S-1 Communication Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), held a guest lecture in the Communication Theory course by inviting Irfan Efendi, M.I.Kom., a senior journalist from SCTV who also serves as a communication strategist at the House of Representatives (DPR RI).

In the session, the guest lecturer shared insights on media communication, message delivery strategies, and the importance of ethics in digital communication. He emphasized that mass media not only delivers news but also plays a key role in shaping public opinion and building social perceptions.

Students actively engaged in the discussion, raising questions about news reporting at Liputan 6, handling newsroom pressures, the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism, and effective communication in organizations.

The Coordinator of S-1 Communication Science UNJ, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR., expressed her appreciation: “Learning communication theory alongside practitioners will certainly be more relevant in order to better understand the relevance between theory and practice. Through this course, students will gain a better understanding of the use of communication theory and AI in shaping strategic communication.”

This guest lecture provided practical perspectives that complement classroom learning and strengthened students’ readiness to connect theory with professional practice.
