Jakarta, 22 July 2026 — Undergraduate of Communication Science Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) participated in Bawaslu Campus Connect 2026: Digital Generation, Transparent Democracy, a collaborative initiative between the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (FISH) UNJ and the General Elections Supervisory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI). The program provided an academic platform for lecturers and students to deepen their understanding of election oversight in the digital era while strengthening digital democracy literacy amid the rapid advancement of communication technologies.
Undergraduate of Communication Science Program was represented by Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR, Coordinator of the Undergraduate Communication Science Program, along with Mega Ayu Permatasari, M.Si. and Dr. M. Fikri Akbar, S.I.Kom., M.Si., M.M., as well as undergraduate students from the program. Their participation reflects the program’s continued commitment to broadening students’ perspectives on public communication, digital democracy, and civic engagement in an increasingly technology-driven society.
The keynote session was delivered by Dr. Puadi, S.Pd., M.M., Member of the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu RI), who emphasized the urgency of transforming election oversight in response to the rapid expansion of digital communication platforms. He explained that political campaigns and the dissemination of political information now extend far beyond conventional public spaces, reaching millions of users through platforms such as TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram, and YouTube. As a result, election oversight requires more adaptive approaches, while university students play a vital role as digital literacy advocates in fostering responsible communication and strengthening future collaboration.
The program continued with a panel discussion featuring academics and practitioners who explored various contemporary issues surrounding digital democracy. The sessions covered collaboration between universities and Bawaslu in promoting participatory democracy, the use of technological innovation to strengthen election oversight, challenges to maintaining electoral integrity in cyberspace, digital ethics in political communication, and the importance of data transparency in supporting accountable election governance. Together, these discussions provided participants with comprehensive insights into the evolving relationship between communication, technology, and democratic participation in the digital age.
The Coordinator of the Undergraduate Communication Science Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR, stated, “This event is a crucial step. By engaging Gen Z in the digital era, Bawaslu is ensuring that election oversight is not only effective but also inclusive and feature ready. The Communication Studies Program is taking part in this event, together with Bawaslu, we’re empowering the Digital Generation of Gen Z to build a smarter and more responsible democracy.”
Through its participation in this initiative, Undergraduate of Communication Science Program continues to encourage students to develop a critical understanding of public communication and digital democracy. The discussions on digital literacy, communication ethics, information dissemination, and participatory election oversight provided valuable perspectives for Communication Science students, equipping them with the knowledge and competencies needed to contribute to a healthier, more inclusive, and democratic digital environment.
