Undergraduate of Communication Science UNJ Hosts Visiting Professor Program to Advance Social Sciences Research and International Collaboration

Jakarta, August 26, 2026Undergraduate of Communication Science, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), hosted an academic visit and visiting professor engagement featuring Professor Adam Possamai from Western Sydney University, Australia, on August 24-25, 2026, at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The program carried the theme “Advancing Social Sciences Research for International Publication.”

The two-day program featured a guest lecture and research methodology workshop designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of social sciences research and international academic publication. The activities were attended by the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program in Communication Science, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR., as well as Communication Science lecturers, including Dr. Elisabeth Nugrahaeni P., M.Si. and Noprita Herari, M.I.Kom. Mega Ayu Permatasari, S.I.Kom., M.Si., served as the moderator for the second session. Several Communication Science students at UNJ also participated in the program.

During the sessions, Professor Possamai shared his academic perspectives on religious change and Indigenous peoples in Australia, providing insights into the relationship between religion, identity, history, and social change. One of the sessions specifically discussed conversion and reversion to Islam among Indigenous Australians, exploring representations of Indigenous Muslims in Australian media and public discourse, as well as issues surrounding religious identity, autonomy, and racial and religious perceptions.

Beyond the academic discussions, the engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen academic networks between Universitas Negeri Jakarta and Western Sydney University. The program also encouraged future international research collaboration, particularly through joint research initiatives and the development of research outputs aimed at international publication. According to Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR., the coordinator of S-1 Communication Science UNJ, “This initiative should be further developed to provide students and lecturers with valuable research experience and opportunities to enhance their knowledge through the dissemination of collaborative research.”.

Through this visiting professor program, Communication Science UNJ reaffirmed its commitment to academic internationalization, research excellence, and global collaboration in the social sciences. The engagement with Professor Adam Possamai is expected to contribute to sustained scholarly exchange and open further opportunities for collaborative research between academics and institutions in Indonesia and Australia.
