
Jakarta, October 22, 2025 — S-1 Communication Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (FISH), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), in collaboration with the Election Supervisory Board of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI), held a Book Review event titled “Data Literacy for Election Monitoring” on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the UNJ campus.
The event was part of a national initiative to strengthen participatory and data-driven election supervision in Indonesia. Students from the Bachelor of Communication Science Program actively participated, demonstrating their critical role in promoting democratic values and accountability through data literacy.In his opening remarks, Puadi, a Member of Bawaslu RI, highlighted that the reviewed book is based on comprehensive research documenting the dynamics of election supervision—covering issues such as the permanent voter list, money politics, civil servant neutrality, and women’s political representation. He emphasized that strengthening data literacy is key to ensuring credible and transparent elections.
Participants engaged enthusiastically throughout the session, asking critical questions and discussing how research-based approaches can enhance election integrity not only through regulation but also by reinforcing the ethical and cultural dimensions of democracy.
The Coordinator of S-1 Communication Science UNJ, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR., expresses her feelings, “This book is highly relevant for communication students as it focuses on evidence-based and data-driven election monitoring. In this digital era, data is not merely numbers but a strategic instrument to uphold electoral integrity, thereby fostering a healthy, data-based democratic ecosystem.”
The active participation of Communication Science students underscored how higher education serves as a strategic platform to cultivate awareness, analytical thinking, and engagement in democratic oversight. The program’s involvement reflects UNJ’s broader commitment to advancing democracy, integrity, and public communication excellence through academic and civic synergy.
