JAKARTA, April 23, 2026 – Undergraduate of Communication Science Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) actively participated in an International Guest Lecture titled “History of Taiwan and Scholarship Prospect in Taiwan” on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Multipurpose Room of the Faculty of Social and Law Sciences (FISH), UNJ. The event aimed to broaden students’ global insights and introduce international study opportunities.

The lecture featured Dr. Teddy YH Sim, an international academic expert in island history and Asian regional studies, as the keynote speaker. He delivered two sessions, including a postgraduate presentation on “The ‘Relevance’ of the Island History of Taiwan for Emerging Scholarship and Researches.” The session was moderated by Sandy Allifiansyah, M.A., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Communication Science Study Program UNJ.
Dr. Teddy presented several key topics: the evolution of island history within Island Studies (2004), theoretical frameworks in island and regional studies, the Austronesian Model (I, II, and III), pre-modern Taiwan history, Taiwan as a maritime frontier, and modern Taiwan’s development trajectory. He also promoted scholarship opportunities at Chung Cheng University (CCU) and emphasized multicultural strategies for international research.

Undergraduate of Communication Science students were not passive attendees. Throughout the event, they engaged in interactive discussions, Q&A sessions, and direct dialogue with Dr. Teddy. Their critical questions and personal conversations with the speaker reflected strong academic enthusiasm and genuine interest in global issues.
The Coordinator of Communication Science UNJ, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR., expressed her feelings, “This event is part of the program’s efforts to invite guest lecturers from outside Indonesia to share their knowledge and experience with students and faculty members of the UNJ undergraduate program in Communication Studies.”
Moving forward, the Communication Science Study Program UNJ hopes to continue facilitating international guest lectures, expanding students’ horizons, and strengthening collaboration between Indonesian academia and the global scientific community.
