Undergraduate of Communication Science UNJ Holds Guest Lecture on Qualitative Research Methods with DPR RI Researcher

Jakarta, June 18 2026 – Undergraduate of Communication Science UNJ organized a guest lecture session for the Qualitative Research Methods course. The activity was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Kinkin Yuliaty, S.P., M.Si. and aimed to broaden students’ understanding of qualitative research through direct engagement with an experienced researcher. 

The session featured Irfan Efendi, M.I.Kom., a researcher at the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). During the lecture, he reviewed student’s qualitative research projects and provided valuable feedback regarding research design, data collection techniques, data analysis, and the overall development of their studies.

Drawing from his professional experience, Irfan Efendi shared insights into the role of research within the legislative environment and highlighted the importance of conducting rigorous research to understand various social issues and support evidence-based decision-making. The discussion also encouraged students to view research not only as an academic requirement but as a practical tool for generating meaningful knowledge and solutions. 

Students actively participated throughout the session by presenting their research progress, engaging in discussions, and asking questions related to the challenges they encounter in conducting qualitative research. The interactive atmosphere allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the research process and receive direct input from a practitioner in the field. 

The Coordinator of Communication Science UNJ, Dr. Dini Safitri, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR, emphasized the importance of the guest lecture, noting that the session provided valuable insights into the real-world application of research and helped students strengthen their understanding of qualitative research methods. 

This guest lecture reflects the commitment of the Communication Science Program at UNJ to enriching students’ academic experiences through collaboration with professionals and practitioners. Through activities such as this, students are expected to develop stronger research competencies and gain broader perspectives on the role of research in both academic and professional settings.
